When will the next version of STARS be released?

STARS 2.1 was released May 18, 2016. There will be a year-long transition period during which STARS participants may decide whether to upgrade to the new version or continue reporting under version 2.0.

Institutions that have not already done so will have their current submission set automatically upgraded to STARS 2.1 on May 31, 2017.

The revision process is governed by STARS Steering Committee in line with the STARS Technical Development Policy:
  • Administrative Updates (e.g. to clarify credit criteria and correct typos) are released no more often than quarterly.
  • Substantive Changes (e.g. 2.1, 2.2) are released as necessary, but no more frequently than once per year.
  • Major Revisions (e.g. 3.0, 4.0) are released as necessary, but no more frequently than once every two years.
